Yankiel Wiernik was a Treblinka death camp survivor. He was incarcerated in Treblinka during August 1942, until he escaped during the prisoner revolt on August 2, 1943. He settled in Israel and he made the model of the death camp during 1956. In a letter that Wiernik wrote to Professor Berl Marek on January 20, 1960, he refers that the miniature model is not finished. The model was already in place during the opening of the Ghetto Fighters House Museum on May 5, 1959. If the model remained unfinished, this would explain why for instance the zoo, which was also built by Wiernik during 1943, is not included in the model.
